Fundraising Projects

Laerskool Malelane is a parallel-medium primary school in Malelane, which means that it is also a multi-cultural school.  There are currently 439 learners registered from Grade R to Grade 7 of which the Afrikaans : English ratio is 46 : 54 %.  The English group consists of mostly Siswati and Indian children.

Because of the socio-economic wellfare of many of the residents of Malelane and surrounding areas, there are many parents who have received excemption of payment of school fees.  To replenish this loss from the budget, Laerskool Malelane runs several fundraising projects through the year.

The four most important fundraising projects are the following:

Chicken Licken Golf Day

9 March 2019

Selati Marathon and Fun Run

11 May 2019

Nkomazi MTB Challenge

24 August 2019

Mascor Go Cart Race

November 2019

Parents Association / Ouervereniging

Laerskool Malelane has an active Parents Association which is very involved with the fundraising projects as well as service delivery.  The PA is lead by Virginia Boshoff, a member of the School Governing Body with the portfolio:  PA.

A parent from each class is chosen a representive and then co-ordinators are chosen for the following groups:

Grade R, Grade 1 and Grade 2

Grade 3, Grade 4 and Grade 5

Grade 6 and Grade 7

At the beginning of the year the class representative sets up a Whatsapp group which is used for communication with regars to PA functions.  We ask all parents to ensure their numbers are added to this group and to volunteer their time to help us raise much needed funds and to provide a service to all learners, parents and visitors to the school.

The PA is involved with preparation and selling refreshments at the following functions:

  • Interhouse Athletics
  • Friendly Athletics Meeting
  • Selati Marathon and Fun Run
  • Cross Country Meeting
  • Nkomazi MTB Challenge
  • Hockey Festival
  • Colour Festival - Desiland

Become part of the PA and be involved with the fundraising projects launched by the school.  It is to the benefit of each and every learner.  And even though it doesn't always sound like fun, being part of the PA is an excellent way to get to know the teachers as well as the parents of your child's peers.
